Maryland is comprised of 24 main local jurisdictions (23 counties and the City of Baltimore). From time to time, these jurisdictions introduce and enact legislation that affects our industry. This page will serve as a resource to make you aware of the legislation. Frederick County: Effective October 1, 2020, the recordation tax will increase by $1.00 (from $6.00 to $7.00) per $500 of consideration. To read the legislation, click here.

Howard County: Effective July 1, 2020, the County Transfer Tax on every instrument of writing conveying title to real or leasehold property offered for record will increase from 1% to 1.25% (an effort to increase the recordation tax was defeated).
