A Report on the Maryland Land Title Association First Annual Lobby Day
Held Thursday, Jan. 23, 2014
Success is sometimes measured in small steps. Other times, success is measured in large steps. I think MLTA’s First Annual Lobby Day in Annapolis can be measured somewhere in between. More than 30 of my fellow association members came to Annapolis and met with various members of the General Assembly.
My fellow association members shared information with members of the General Assembly on legislation and matters important to the title industry. We would have been more effective with a larger turnout; but those who participated did an excellent job. Led by “Lobby Day” Chairperson Nancy Gusman and Legislative Committee Chairman Jim “Golf Is Not a Blizzard Sport” Cosgrove, along with our excellent Legislative Counsel, Bill Pitcher and his staff, the MLTA obtained a sponsor on an important piece of legislation pending in the General Assembly, educated Delegates and Senators alike, and reaffirmed friendships with several members of the General Assembly. (Thank you, Bill O’Connell, for obtaining the sponsor.)
I also had the rare opportunity to meet the Speaker of the House who stopped by our cocktail party, as well as several key members of committees that hold your jobs in the balance. For those of you who did attend, please remember to send personal written notes to the Members who met with you.
Thank you again for your efforts.
